another mouth to feed

To actually see the young fed the peanuts I supply a select group is more than rewarding.

After a weekend of hand feeding the Titmouse and Thrasher with my hand on a table, the Titmouse land’s on my extended hand. Both these birds were pecking my toes wearing flip flops in the morning?

  2. As of yesterday I am feeding the tufted tit-mouse by hand and today the thrasher too. Our suburban yard had gotten a bit out of control when I developed frozen shoulder in my left shoulder years ago. I’m now developing it in my right shoulder, I suppose to the delight of my bird friends. We have every species of Virginian Birds which I’ve been documenting because of the yard being un-manicured. I do mow the grass though. Our back yard is a National Park, in my mind.

  4. My notes on adhesive capsulitis : , of which I treated with a TENS unit this weekend as I wait to get to my GP for a cortisone shot.

    Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in your shoulder joint. Signs and symptoms typically begin gradually, worsen over time and then resolve, usually within one to three years.

    Steroid injections. Injecting corticosteroids into your shoulder joint may help decrease pain and improve shoulder mobility, especially in the early stages of the process.

    Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)

    A typical battery-operated TENS unit is able to modulate pulse width, frequency and intensity. Generally TENS is applied at high frequency (>50 Hz) with an intensity below motor contraction (sensory intensity) or low frequency (<10 Hz) with an intensity that produces motor contraction.
    Today many people confuse TENS with electrical muscle stimulation (EMS). EMS and TENS devices look similar, with both using long electric lead wires and electrodes. TENS is for blocking pain, where EMS is for stimulating muscles.

    Electrical stimulation for pain control was used in ancient Rome, 63 A.D. It was reported by Scribonius Largus that pain was relieved by standing on an electrical fish at the seashore. In the 16th through the 18th century various electrostatic devices were used for headache and other pains. Benjamin Franklin was a proponent of this method for pain relief. In the 19th century a device called the electreat, along with numerous other devices were used for pain control and cancer cures. Only the electreat survived into the 20th century, but was not portable, and had limited control of the stimulus.. Development of modern TENS unit is generally credited to C. Norman Shealy.

    Today’s medicine continues to draw on ancient and future discoveries. Advanced research will often draw from the old technology and combine it with new advances. For example, a TENS, which uses …”electrical nerve stimulation is a rediscovery of long- known principles.”

    “The ancient Greeks used a similar method with electric eels to relieve pain of headaches and gout. Documents prepared by physicians of the period show that significant care was taken to select the appropriate type of fish for the pain” .
    Hand-held generated electricity became so popular in the 19th century that it was used to relieve pain and cure disease. Queen Victoria was very innovative for her time. When she became pregnant with her first child, she stated that she did not want to have pain during childbirth. She was the pioneer of anesthesia and used it during her labor.

    Repetitive motion injuries are among the most common injuries in the United States. All of these disorders are made worse by the repetitive actions of daily living.
    Early detection is the key to preventing serious shoulder injuries.

    Shoulder Exercises
    Often, an orthopedic surgeon will prescribe a series of exercises aimed at strengthening the shoulder muscles.

    Here are some easy shoulder exercises that you can do to strengthen your shoulder muscles and prevent injuries.

    Basic shoulder strengthening
    Attach elastic tubing to a doorknob at home. Gently pull the elastic tubing toward your body. Hold for a count of five. Repeat five times with each arm. Perform twice a day.

    Wall push-ups
    Stand facing a wall with your hands on the wall and your feet shoulder-width apart. Slowly perform a push-up. Repeat five times. Hold for a count of five. Perform twice a day.

    Shoulder press-ups
    Sit upright in a chair with armrest, with your feet touching the floor. Use your arms to slowly rise off the chair. Hold for a count of five. Repeat five times. Perform twice a day.

    Other Treatment
    Anti-inflammatory medication also may be prescribed to reduce pain and swelling.

  8. The USDA lowered its 2015 projections for egg supplies last week, saying that the discovery of bird flu in Minnesota, Iowa and other Midwestern states will constrain egg production.

    The H5N1 bird flu virus is spread when wild birds pass the virus along to birds such as chickens or ducks that are being raised for human consumption. While the wild birds do not seem to be affected by the virus, the livestock that contract the virus get very sick and many die.

  9. Ate a couple of eggs in preparing for future shortage. It would have been day four of the Titmouse flying into my hand for peanut, but she was soaking wet and decided to give her a day off today. I also pondered about doing a blog about being 60 after a week of healing. I usually ignore my aches, pains, and etc.This week hasn’t been the case. I haven’t had time to be sick or had a Cold in years.
