Hawksbill Summit

DCIM101GOPROGOPR5877.

My solstice card for this year. The summit is the only place I’ve seen or photographed a Raven.

Common Ravens tend to do well around people, profiting from the garbage, crops, irrigation, and roadkill that accompany us. Their numbers are generally stable or rising in western North America. As eastern forests were cut down in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries ravens disappeared from most of eastern North America, but they are beginning to return to the Northeast as forest cover regenerates. In many situations ravens are unwelcome: they have been shot at, poisoned, or harassed in attempts to preserve crops (and occasionally livestock such as lambs).

A usual testing place for viewing is our refrigerator. If by chance a given print has a long lifespan on other refrigerators, it’s cheerful. I always wanted to do a book! It is just photographs I realize. I’ve really slowed down taking photographs and wonder if “the fear that your life has been a project of self-delusion”, has been my story?

Currently reading “the DALAI LAMA”S LITTLE BOOK of WISDOM”, which is a blessing……

I did a beautiful canvas print of this for solstice.

  1. The notion that we routinely hide from the truth about ourselves and our world is not an appealing one, though it may help to explain the human tendency to ostracize the abnormal. Perhaps the reason we are so eager to reject any departure from this fiction we call “normality” is because we have grown dependent on our comfortable delusions; without them, there is nothing to insulate us from the harsh cold of reality.

  2. This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.

Open-minded people tend to be interested in Buddhism because Buddha urged people to investigate things – he didn’t just command them to believe.

  3. The purpose of our lives is to be happy.

Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.

    • Thanks! We have been working, adjusting, at VCU dental School, etc. and basically enjoying being off the grid. Not a tree in the yard, I’m thinking of selling Beverly Hills Tomatoes off the back of my antique truck on Route 6 in the future. Not sure about the soil or the Crow action which may be problems.

      • Get a soil test, or just bring in all new soil, and get some bird fabric (netting) for protection. You can sell the tomatoes in my neighborhood.
